Montgomery was #5 in my top 6. All of my top 6 are now drafted. Great, this is gonna be another tough draft. This league evaluates talent well.

wanted Montgomery, but will have to settle for Lyles. Not a bad consolation prize.

Thanks for re-affirming my decision to select Montgomery Andy. With the new "Braves way" of operating their minor league system in K.C. I hope they churn out SP like Atlanta has done over the years. Lyles looks great as well.

Twins, great selection on Hudson. I was considering him as well at 1.06 but opted more for youth than possibly ready sooner. Both could turn out great tho and hopefully so!

Hudson might be the second or third most divisive prospect in baseball right. I am really interested in how he turns out.

Damn, Mariners, thought I was going to get a steal with pick 38, instead I think you got one at 36.

I'm not pointing fingers anywhere, but some guys taken were huge surprises to me. I had to look 2 of them up! That's why I'm here...live and learn!

Yup. Always will have the surprise picks. Maybe that's why Alderson fell to me. I think Tim gets a bad rap now that he is a Pirate instead of a Giant prospect. Until the trade all the buzz was he was almost as good a prospect as Mad Bum. I am personally glad (as a multi-league owner of Alderson) that he was traded away as he would have been blocked really well in the Giants system but in the Pirates system he should be in the majors in 2010.

Maybe that's why Alderson fell to me. I thought it might be because of the big drop in velo.

"One area of concern for Alderson was a velocity drop. Alderson normally pitches in the high-80s to low 90s, but saw his velocity drop strictly to the high-80s this season. Fellow Giants prospect Madison Bumgarner had the same issues, so it's unknown if the velocity drop has to do with the Giants use of their top pitching prospects, or if it's just coincidental for two young pitchers who saw major changes in 2009 (Bumgarner went all the way from A-ball to the majors, and Alderson was traded)."
Mad Bum had the same issue.
I think at 6'6" and over 215 lbs and only being 21 he has the room to add back the velocity and then some.
What I love about Alderson is he has always had a low walk ratio. He may never be a dominant K pitcher but I drafted him for multiple reasons. 1. Strong track record as an elite organizational prospect. 2. Great control. 3. I project he will be an average to slightly above average SP in the majors when it comes to K's but the WHIP will be excellent.

From Fangraphs: Much has been made about Alderson’s dip in velocity, which peaked in high school. It could still bounce back, and the right-hander could also be sacrificing miles per hour for control/command. Either way, he needs to bump up the strikeout rate if he’s going to be an impact pitcher. Not saying he won't rebound, but that it may be the cause of the drop in the draft. Definitely a buy-low opp.

Thanks for that nugget Clay. I have hitched my fate to him, and am still confident it was the right decision. Plus, my majors are hurting for quality SP talent and he will be able to help me there hopefully sooner than other options.
