A. Waivers
1. A player may be waived at any time, except where otherwise stipulated. Start a thread for the player in Waivers. Include the player's name, team and position in the subject line. Include the salary and contract length in the body of the post
2. Any team other than the waiving team may put in a claim prior to the conclusion of the 72-hour window. The team with the highest priority wins the player. The claiming team must assume the player's current contract.
3. If the player is claimed while on waivers the waiving team is freed of its financial obligation entirely (100%).
4. A player will have officially cleared waivers after 72 hrs. He then becomes a free agent.
5. If the player clears waivers the waiving team will be responsible for 100% of the waived player's salary. If the player is subsequently signed by another team the waiving team's penalty is reduced by the (average annual) value of the new contract. Years are not taken into account and have no effect on the salary owed. The deduction of salary relates to the next contract only; there will be only one reduction per waived contract. There is no deduction in waived salary if the player is reacquired by the team that waived him. See 6.
6. A waived major leaguer becomes off limits to the owner who waived him for the remainder of the current season or until after another owner has claimed and released him. The player may be reacquired via trade.
7. If a waived major leaguer is reacquired by the waiving team, the team will be responsible for both the old and new contracts paying them concurrently. The reacquisition may occur through trade, waiver claim or signing after the player is released by another team or after the end of the season. The old contract must be posted under the Waived Players section on the team's roster page.
8. Waiver priority will be determined by the standings as follows:
* Worst to first in the same league (AL/NL)
* Worst to first in the other league
* Tiebreak will be the team that placed the claim first.
The order will be defined as the standings at the moment the player's claim window expires, not the standings when he was placed on waivers. In the off-season and first week of the season, the previous season's standings will be used.
11. Minors
a. Minors may be waived at any time.
b. Waived players do not count against the 60 minors roster spots.
c. The salary of a waived minor is removed from the books. It does not count against the cap. This only applies if the player was promoted to the major roster after the call-up date where he has a salary on a minor contract.
d. Waived minors may be re-signed by the waiving team 30 days after being placed on waivers.
e. If a minor is re-signed, in the same season, by the team that waived him his new contract is to be of the same duration as his previous one. For example, if Player X had a 2 year minors deal when waived, he is to be assigned a 2-year minors deal if he re-signs with the team that waived him. If the player was on the reserve roster before being waived he can only be re-signed to a 1-yr deal. The player must still be under the 130AB/50IP minor threshold to be re-signed as a minor.
f. Promoted minors on year to year contracts may be waived at any time but the team is still responsible for the year to year contract if waived during the season. If waived in the offseason the team has no financial obligation since the year to year salary is not guaranteed.
12. Players may not be waived with less than 72 hours remaining in the regular season. Generally, this will mean Waivers will close to new posts at 11:59PM, Thursday, the last week of the regular season. Claims will be accepted for 72 hours, generally until Sunday at 11:59PM. For cases in which a team has signed a player after waivers close, due to ongoing bidding, a player may be waived as a corresponding move, after the deadline. The deadline for claims in this situation will be 72 hours or when CBS lineups lock at the start of the 1st week of playoffs, whichever comes first.
***NOTE: A 72-hour waiver window started at 12:30pm would be closed at 12:30pm three days later. The final claim accepted would be at 12:29 pm at the end of the third day. For example, if the window began on Monday at 12:30pm, a claim could not be filed after 12:29 pm on Thursday.***
