The Angels have been pushing for trade target Roy Halladay, and are believed to have offered pitcher Joe Saunders, shortstop Erick Aybar and minor league outfielder Peter Bourjos. --FROM CNNSI.com
Well, this would make me happy if it happens. Aybar still would be a starting SS in MLB and this would free up the starting SS job in LAA for Maicer Izturis, giving me three very good SS options. ;D

I don't like the deal at all from the Blue Jays standpoint. I hear they may be asking for more as well. Something like Weaver/Aybar/Bourjos/and another spect.

I agree with the last 2 names, but I'm thinking the Jays would rather get 2-3 of their top end SP prospects because Saunders is arbitration eligible and will be a FA himself in 3 years. Since the Jays are not expecting to win right away, Saunders would not be happy going to TO, whereas their youngsters would appreciate getting a shot and would form a potent nucleus with Romero, Cecil and Rzepzcinki.
I do expect him to go to the LAA. Seattle put a ton of pressure on them by getting Figgins (and also freed up some $$$ for them) and they need a #1 starter that will be healthy in 2010. Lackey's health status is unknown, so they can't sign him. Also, by dealing him to the LAA, Alex avoids sending him within the AL East.

Interesting Dustin. Well, you know the Angels team well so thanks for the nugget of info. I also don't think that would be enough for Halladay but remember the Blue Jays now are dealing with a player with only a year left on his deal and other teams can try to low ball them a bit and they know it. I agree tho, I think the price tag would rise a bit but who knows how much?
As the Blue Jays GM is it better for you to deal him before Lackey signs somewhere or afterwards? Where does that part of the leverage lie with the Blue Jays are against them?

Where does that part of the leverage lie with the Blue Jays are against them? It depends. Right now the Angels feel threatened because they (and most others) believe that the Mariners are the favorites to land Lackey. If Seattle does land him, that's better for the Jays because Doc becomes the ONLY option for the Angels. If Lackey signs in NY (mets or yankees) or Philly, then the Angels may not feel as pressured to offer much because their rotation is much stronger than Seattle's. It's fun to watch, and will be even more fun to analyze once all is said and done.

So it behooves the Blue Jays to wait till Lackey signs since the Mariners are the favorites. If he signs there, LAA in addition to the other teams seeking Halladay becomes a major player and can only help raise the price tag to acquire Halladay. If Lackey goes elsewhere then likely Halladay still nets the same deal from the other teams that are interested anyways.
I predict no movement on Halladay then until Lackey lands somewhere.

Kevin, You would then be the second GM to come a knockin'. I am totally open to trading one away (two if this trade happens lol) once we are able to trade. So, don't be shy to hit me up or if you wish talk about possible scenerios as we go along here. Just PM me when you wish to start talking. I will not fully commit to a trade on anyone until both drafts have been completed but I am totally willing to talk and put together a potential framework of a potential deal before then.

From MLBTR
"Angels GM Tony Reagins didn't comment on the reported offer of Saunders, Aybar and Bourjos, but two sources shot the rumor down when Mike DiGiovanna of the LA Times asked them about it.
Reagins said the Blue Jays have targeted Saunders, Bourjos and Mike Napoli. It's even "possible" that the deal could be expanded to send more Blue Jays to Anaheim.
"They have a lot of pieces that are attractive," Reagins said."
I'm telling you guys - Downs, Frasor, maybe even Wells could end up being part of this deal by the time all is said and done. It will be done with LA, but this thing could get huge. If Aybar is included, it makes sense for the Jays to send Gonzalez to LA. That could be it, but it's fun to wonder!
