As one of the fraternity (great word!) of owners from the other league I can say I am in no way driving for a change or opposing any commentary on a change. Aside from that I have no issue with the order remaining as is but, being the social type that I am, am not against hearing why other owners feel the reasoning behind the order of the 2010 Amateur Draft order is flawed or unfair or whatever reasoning others choose to use in their reasoning. Right we aren't changing anything yet. Soon I'll create it as a discussion topic and hopefully it generates some healthy conversation. Then we can go into a poll from there if it is needed if not it'll remain the same.

I will....one day....if you would only trade me Brandon Wood to lead the charge! I am glad there were no teams available in your division in this league so I would not have to butt heads with you in two leagues! But I could not resist being in the same league (the Jr circuit) and stopping the Yankees from greatness. In real life they have 27 championships....here...they have none...and I plan to keep it that way! ;D Good stuff!

For now let's disregard the 2010 amateur list - the ML and MiL list will stay the same. Concern is that it has created an unfair advantage to some. This doesn't affect the ML draft which will take place starting tomorrow. As the "former" designated holder of the first choice, I don't see any evidence of this concern here on the board. Are there things going on behind the scene? Is the fraternity of owners from the other league driving things that the new owners don't see? Those of us in the middle of both drafts get no premier choices without this order? Is that fair? I oppose this decision and implore the commissioner to re-visit and restore the published draft order immediately. I had not heard any complaints, but the way I see it the order has to come from somewhere.....right? I see no problem with this and really, part of the reason we all do this is to expand our baseball knowledge....so who cares where you draft? I just enjoy drafting altogether!! I agree with healthy chatter on the subject, but strongly feel that you can't tell someone he's getting Bryce Harper one day then burst that big freakin' bubble!! The only options I see are as it is done (and was advertised) or we do a lotto just before the draft using NY numbers lotto or something similar to see who gets what. (3 numbers drawn - everyone sends their numbers to the commish who sends his to 3 owners ahead of time, and all are posted before the draw. If the numbers drawn are 1-0-0 for example, and I had chosen 045 the commish chose 200, then I would be closest and get the pick ahead of him, then him, and if someone had 250 they would be next ect... Sure, this would give people a chance at getting Bryce again....but I feel that a decision was already taken before the random order was made, and it should - in my mind - remain as such. Anything else that we come up with will not be any more fair, it will just be like jumbling the names around for no real reason. Just my 2 cents. ;D

I expressed my concerns to the Commish via PM. I shared my thoughts on it and let him know that I'd stand by any decision he made. I have no idea if any one else had an opinion on it. There is no conspiracy. Without getting into detail, I believe drafting in the 1st 14 picks+ a late prospect picks gives a clear advantage over a team drafting late in the MLB draft and early in the prospect draft. The impact of the major leaguers available in the first 3/4 is greater than the potential impact of prospects + a lower tier major. That's just my take after looking over the FA list and looking at the numerous top 10 prospects (see Braves, Rangers, etc.) other than Strasburg that are already claimed.

Drafting #16 was so disappointing to the franchise. The Mariners strategy will now chage and we will be in full rebuilding mode now. Open the floodgates......
To the fututre!

But, how many Top 25 prospects do you see available? Actually, you could make a good argument for 6-8 of them. But if you look at who actually has a big impact in MLB, it isn't always the top ranked guys. You don't have to look any farther than Homer Bailey and Andrew Miller to see that. Both were said to be sure things by BA and all scouts, and look at what people who held on in fantasy circles have got from them since. There's lot-o-talent...it's just too bad there are not 20 Strasburgs out there for us to even it out. Then again, Mark Prior was the top draft pick in everyone's league once....and look at where he is....

I still have faith in Bailey (runs to see if reds protected him)
