A. The Reserve Roster
1. The reserve roster is comprised of 13 eligible players. In combination with the 27-man roster it constitutes the 40-man roster.
2. As occurs in MLB, the reserve roster serves each team with an available pool of players to plug in to the majors roster in case of injury or any other happening that would bring the majors roster below 27.
3. Options
a. Major league players on the reserve roster are considered to be on "optional assignments." Eligible players are given 3 "optional assignments" or "options." Options last for the entirety of the season in which they are used.
b. Majors players with less than 1800AB, 600IP or 200 games pitched will receive 3 options. One option is used for each season a player is placed on the reserve roster.
c. If a player with fewer than 1800AB/600IP/200GP is out of options he may only be demoted from the majors roster to the reserve roster by first clearing waivers. If the GM wishes to waive with the intent to demote the player to the reserve roster he must express that in his post waiving the player.
d. A player who has superceded 1800AB/600IP/200GP may not be demoted to the reserve roster due to what is termed, "Veteran's Consent." Players who begin the season under the threshold, but pass it during the season may continue to be sent to the reserve roster for the remainder of the season.
e. When placing a player on a majors contract on the reserve roster for the first time that season he loses one of his options. Be sure to note on your transaction page that an option was used and how many remain (2, 1 or 0). Also make sure it is noted on your roster page; use a * or bold or some other way to signify that the players' options have already been reduced this season.
f. If a player is out of options or ineligible to receive them denote it with a "-" or "X".
g. Players who clear waivers or are released to free agency regain all 3 options.
h. Minors do not have options. They may be placed on the Reserve Roster. However, once placed on it, they may not be demoted to the minors. These players will receive options if assigned majors contracts the following off-season.
4. Players demoted from the majors roster to the reserve roster may not be recalled for 10 days except in the case of a player being added to the DL. If, for example, the player is demoted the 1st, he may be recalled the 11th.
